Spanish football club FC Barcelona, with several Spanish media outlets claiming he is willing to invest a staggering €10 billion. This massive proposal is theoretically intended to clear Barcelona’s existing debt, which is currently over €2 billion, and would give the Crown Prince full control of the club. The offer is considered part of the Saudi Public Investment Fund’s (PIF) aggressive strategy to increase investments in global sports. However, a significant obstacle remains: Spanish clubs like Barcelona and Real Madrid cannot be fully purchased by foreign or private entities because they are owned by their registered members, known as Socios, who control the club’s administrative decisions and voting rights. Spanish analysts suggest the €10 billion figure might be symbolic or an initial probe, but if a “mega-deal” were to somehow materialize, it would immediately relieve the club from its heavy financial burden.
