A devastating school bus accident in northern Colombia’s Antioquia department has claimed the lives of at least 17 people and left 20 others injured. The tragedy occurred on Sunday (December 14) morning around 5:40 AM on the road connecting Remedios and Zaragoza, where the bus—carrying 45 passengers, including students and adults—rolled approximately 80 meters into a ravine. The passengers were students from Liceo Antioqueño High School returning to Medellín after celebrating their graduation on the Caribbean coast. Antioquia Governor Andrés Julián confirmed the event, stating that the injured, aged between 16 and 27, have been admitted to hospitals in Segovia and Remedios. The deceased include the bus driver, Jonatan Taborda Cocacolo. While the journey was not an official school activity, the high school issued a statement expressing deep sorrow and standing with the affected students and their families as authorities continue their investigation to determine the exact cause of the crash.
